Minto: modernizing multi-site publishing
Application modernization, richer editorial tools and automated release checks for the Minto multi-site publishing platform.
The challenge
Minto needed to move beyond a legacy content management system and support a more capable multi-site application. The platform had to accommodate content shared across the organization as well as pages and articles specific to individual regions and local sites.
The work involved more than replacing the CMS. Editorial tools, media, external data and the delivery process all needed to fit the new application.
Our contribution
Tarkmote converted the legacy CMS into a modern multi-site application and planned the infrastructure, deployment approach, development cycles and release strategy around it.
We also refactored the system and designed a three-level content structure to support organization-wide, regional and local publishing needs, with deliberate boundaries between shared content and content specific to each level.
More capable editorial tools
We introduced a page builder with AI-assisted template reuse and an extensible plugin system for adding page-building capabilities.
The wider work included external data import and transformation, plus media management with separate asset storage. These capabilities supported the platform's content workflows alongside its public-facing websites.
Delivery with verification
Infrastructure and releases were planned alongside application development. We introduced automated visual regression checks for content variations and end-to-end tests for administration workflows, adding verification to the delivery process as the system evolved.
The outcome
A modernized multi-site application with a richer editing workflow, a designed content hierarchy, integrated media and data handling, and automated checks supporting release decisions.
The engagement brought application architecture, editorial experience and delivery engineering together within one modernization effort.
